ELIZABETH

I’m very excited to announce one of my portraits of my beautiful friend Liz has been chosen as a finalist in the Duo Magazine Percival Photographic Portrait Prize. Please come along and check out the exhibition at Pinnacles Gallery from 16th May – 13th July.

Below is the photographic portrait session with Liz, one of these images is in the exhibition, come along to see which one made it through.

Here is the story that goes along with these portraits…..

My close friend. A woman of incredible strength who is simultaneously experiencing life’s richest miracles and darkest hours. Having just become a mother one year ago her baby fills her heart with so much love and happiness. While she should be enjoying this beautiful time with her family they have been struck with the news that her mother has terminal cancer, and in a cruel twist has now lost her sister to suicide. Elizabeth is here. Her mother is going. Her sister is gone. She is torn between the heavens and the earth – she wants to float away but her feet remain firmly on the ground – in this life – where she needs to be a pillar of strength for her baby and care for her mother in her final months.

This portrait captures Elizabeth’s struggle and strength. The skies might be gloomy but the flying birds suggest her sister is free and at peace while Elizabeth’s reflection in the water is proof she is still here, exactly where she needs to be.

Jo Pyne - These are truely beautiful photographs that capture some difficult emotions in a caring and loving way. They will stick in my mind long after I have stopped looking at them.
